News and Events

The Academy holds regular ceremonies, gatherings, and public events throughout the year. This page records recent activities of the headquarters and its members.

Annual Ceremonies

Two ceremonies anchor the Academy calendar. The Founder's Day ceremony honours Grand Master Wu Chien Chuan and is held around the fourth month of the lunar calendar, followed by a dinner for members and guests. The Chinese New Year gathering takes place on the second day of the lunar new year, when the Grand Master and disciples of every generation greet each other at the headquarters.

University Teaching

In 2015 the Academy taught the first accredited Tai Chi Chuan credit course at Hong Kong Baptist University, as an elective in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation Management. Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu personally invigilated the practical assessment, and the course was taught by his disciple Jeff Chui.

Competitions and Demonstrations

Academy members regularly represent the headquarters at the Hong Kong Wushu Union's international taijiquan tournaments and push hands championships, with more than thirty competitors fielded in a single event. Grand Master Wu also delivers public workshops and masters' demonstrations, including the "Chinese Wushu Library" DVD series filmed by the Chinese Wushu Association.

Disciple Ceremonies

The Academy admits new disciples of the Grand Master at formal ceremonies, most recently the fourth batch of twelve disciples in 2013. The complete tradition of discipleship in the Wu family is introduced on the Head of the Family page.
